Hullo people... Year 12 isn't that bad so far. I've actually been studying and doing all my homework because I'm a good little boy who wants to get good little grades....Bahh humbug. Things have been going okay. The band is taking on a weirder more experimental approach. Trying to fuse death/doom metal, with world music, free form jazz, 20th century modern classical, spanish flamenco, and the list pretty much goes on. A whole range of instruments are going to be experimented with, along with alot of styles of music. Of course, we gotta keep the headbanging going on so yeah the metal is still DEFINITELY in there, just not as catchy :). More compositional than writing songs so it's gonna be cool...

I really can't get over how Maudlin of the Well completely obliterates so many other contemporary other bands in terms of innovation and songwriting. It's like fully sick dawg...anyway

Howdy everyone, school's back wow... how interesting! Nothing really to say, apart from the workload hasn't been all THAT bad, but I'm sure it'll get worse later in the year. The Big Day Out 04 happened last Sunday, wow... Plain awesome. Muse were my pick of the day, even if I wasn't in the centre of the mosh their live presence and setlist just blew me away. Matt Bellamy is insane. They've become one of my favourite Brit-Rock bands. Nice looking piano as well, it lights up when he presses a key!  Haha... The other bands I went to see were Blood Duster which, as much as they have shit songs, they put on a great liveshow. Then I followed Kiel, Nick and Peter sit through some bands just to wait for Metallica. They were The Black Eyed Peas, which wasn't too bad because they were good at what they did, their session members were awesome with their trumpet, saxophone and jazz solos. The Dandy Warhols are crap live. The Hoodoo Gurus went off, considering they look like they're 50 and they're balding. A few others I can't really remember. But now on to Metallica...well first of all I wanna say how fucking rude alot of metalheads are. It's a music festival, alot of people go to the Big Day Out to see different bands, and even if the band you're looking forward to see headlines it, you still treat the other bands with respect. You don't say "Fuck off strokes, fuck off strokes" Rude bastards. Either way, Metallica played a pretty awesome set but it was no surprise for me, although the tone for Kirk's solos was horrible and you couldn't hear anything and Kirk kept fucking up. The moshpit was insane, people hit each other, the pit moved from side to side. It sucks being right at the front of the pit directly infront of Kirk because people squash you and you hurt your ribs. Then you get pulled back and yeah....THen I got dehydrated because I haven't drunk enough water that day and I crowd surfed(only to get out of the god damn moshpit) Unfortunately I was in the air for about 40 seconds wanting to get down haha. Then I went to buy a drink of water and met up with Peter who had the same situation as I did....blah blah blah blah blah...

I'm bored...

MAUDLIN OF THE WELL! :)

One of the most innovative bands I've ever heard in my life. 9 members that all actually do something in all the songs, unlike Slipknot. Trumpets, Oboe, Violins, Saxophone etc. It sounds like a huge jazz/lounge/blues ensemble combined with extreme metal. It all seems insane but yet everything it's neatly composed with really technical lines and it's full of emotion. Things are repeated(but barely) if they sound like they have to. The twisting song structures...are LIKE OMG WTF BBQ. Pure awesome... It sounds like Dr Seuss's imagination fused with music. The schizophrenic sound brings a whole new meaning to wanky "prog" "tech" bands like Dream Theater or Power of Omens...this is really progressive. Evolving music not just psycho guitar/bass/keyboard lines. Highly underrated band...
